Luther: I Admit I Deserve Death & Hell What Of It?

21 Apr

So when the devil throws your sins in your face and declares that you deserve death and hell, tell him this: “I admit that I deserve death and hell, what of it? For I know One who suffered and made satisfaction on my behalf. His name is Jesus Christ, Son of God, and where He is there I shall be also!

~Martin Luther~

Do you have a reference for this? I’ve seen it in the movie “Luther” but can’t find a citation from Luther’s actual works.

Hey Jeff! I had the same question when I initially posted this, but subsequently found the source. Here is a newer post of the same quote with the source: https://theoldguys.org/2015/07/27/martin-luther-how-to-fight-for-joy-like-a-justified-sinner/.

Thanks! I’ve loved this quote for years but always wondered about the source.
